A.J. Sellman Selected as Staffordshire Representative for SAIF’s “Handled with Care” Campaign

We are proud to share that A.J. Sellman has been chosen by SAIF (the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors) as the Staffordshire representative for its national campaign, Handled with Care.

This recognition reflects our long-standing commitment to providing families with compassionate, personal support—delivered face to face, within the community we have served since 1870.

A Campaign Focused on Understanding and Support

The Handled with Care campaign aims to raise awareness of online direct cremation and to help families better understand what these services can involve. While often presented as simple and low-cost, many people are unaware of the practical and emotional implications until after a bereavement.

Arrangements made remotely—over the phone or through a keyboard—can mean limited personal contact and a funeral carried out far from home. For many families, this can feel impersonal at a time when reassurance, clarity, and human connection matter most.

The campaign encourages people to look beyond price and convenience, and to consider the importance of care, dignity, and guidance when making funeral arrangements.

The Value of Local, Personal Care

We believe that nothing replaces the ability to sit down with someone, speak openly, and be supported in person by a professional who understands both your needs and your community.

Being local means families can talk to us face to face—not through a call centre, not via emails or online forms, but with a real person who is there to listen, guide, and support them every step of the way.

This personal approach allows us to provide care with true dignity—taking the time to understand each family’s wishes, answer questions clearly, and offer reassurance during what is often an overwhelming time.

Why This Matters

Being selected to represent Staffordshire is an honour that reflects:

  • Our trusted reputation, built over more than 150 years

  • Being a national award-winning funeral director

  • Our deep roots and understanding of the local community

But more importantly, it reflects the value of what we offer every day: genuine human connection, delivered with compassion and professionalism.

Supporting Families, Every Step of the Way

Through our involvement in Handled with Care, we hope to encourage families to seek information early, ask questions, and understand all their options before decisions need to be made.

Whether a family chooses a simple service or something more traditional, we are here to ensure they never feel alone in that process.

Because when it comes to saying goodbye, care should never feel distant or transactional—it should be personal, thoughtful, and handled with dignity.
